6 Days Rongai Route
Overview
Second easiest route after Marangu route. Start hiking from East side of the Mountain. Close to the Tanzania Kenya bolder. Beautiful scenery and great view of Mawenzi peak and Kibo peak.Finish the hike at Marangu gate. The advantage of this trail is less tourists, super view of Kenyan side and Tanzania side. High percentage of reaching at the summit. You can hike 5-7 days depends on your time.
Day by Day Itinerary
Day 0
Arrival. Pick up at Kilimanjaro Airport and drive to the booked Hotel/Lodge.
Day 1
Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water, drive to Rongai gate. The drives to Rongai gate take about 3hrs. After check in at Rongai gate, start walking through rain forest to Simba camp. The walk to camp takes about 2-3 hours. Dinner and overnight at first camp or Simba camp 2,671m.
Day 2
Morning after breakfast with drinking water on your hand, continue hiking to the second cave campsite 3-4hrs. Beautiful day walking on heather and Moorland zone. Enjoy great view of two peaks Kibo and Mawenzi. Get hot lunch at Second cave camp. After lunch do acclamatization to third cave and then back for dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 3
Morning after breakfast, continue hiking to third cave about 3800m have hot lunch at the camp about 3 to 4 hours walk. After lunch do acclamatization to school hut about 4,800m, then back to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch continue walking to Kibo hut campsite. You’ll be trekking on the alpine desert, the trek takes about 4hrs. Dinner and overnight at Kibo hut campsite 4,720m.
Day 5
Midnight after refreshing tea with cookies, start walking for summit. The walk to the summit takes about 6-7 hours. Trek on the desert and glacier zones to Gilman’s Point 5,685m for about 5-6 hours. This point is on the crater rim. After relaxing few minutes, continue walking to UHURU PEAK through crater rim for about 2 hours. After arriving at UHURU PEAK, take pictures for about 20 minutes. Then walk down to Horombo hut campsite via Kibo hut campsite 5-6 hours. Dinner and overnight at Horombo hut campsite 3,720m full board basis.
Day 6
Morning after breakfast descends to Marangu Park gate 6hrs. Meet Van and transfer to Stella Maris Lodge Moshi 1 hour for overnight based on bed and breakfast.
Please note; the day 7 you will be taken by our vehicle to Airport for home flight, Zanzibar or other destination.
